Educational campaign “The Judge I Want”

This educational campaign was presented last Monday September 3, 2007 in the Supreme Court of Justice within the framework of the “Judicial Performance, Transparency and Access to Information” Program. The educational module “The Judge I Want”, was created under the broader campaign called “Educating in Justice” developed by the ONG INECIP with USAID support.

This campaign aims to explain the operating process of the Judicial Branch with emphasis on the rights of children and adolescents and the importance of the Judge.

The proposal is to educate children and adolescents in judicial administration in Paraguay and to promote participation, through access to the justice system, so that children will know and exercise their given rights.

Children’s artwork were displayed on the day of the presentation of the campaign which reflected the kind of Judge they would like. These drawings were based on the recognition of their rights as a result of the campaign launched in August 2007 and implemented in different schools in Asuncion.

Educational materials elaborated within the framework of the campaign such as a didactic proposal for educational purposes, a poster with the 10 fundamental rights of childhood and adolescence and the card game “Ten Rights for a Better Life”.

The campaign geared at High School and Middle School children is called “Understanding our Judicial Branch”, and includes the publication “ What is the Judicial Branch? ”, and the educational video “Through Justice our Rights give us a Better Life”.

The campaign was launched with a short play for kids. Dr. Alicia Beatriz Pucheta de Correa, President of the Supreme Court of Justice, ministers of the Court, directors, teachers and students, the Director of Primary Education in the Ministry of Education and Culture, and representatives of organizations working in education and rights of children and adolescence were all present in the event.
