This study will help the Mission and the Paraguayan government to design more effective strategies to be directed to the most vulnerable populations, define areas where major prevention and other interventions should be implemented, and potentially, complement border activities being carried out with Brazil in the Foz do Iguaçu area. This research will also benefit the local organizations, including the PRONASIDA, by providing support and training to colleagues to conduct formative research and develop mechanisms to disseminate and utilize best practices that emerge from the study. The results will be used to design and test a cost-effective intervention package to reduce transmission of HIV among the target population.
